ICOIC Issues Legal Consultation on Electoral Tensions

President should play his role based on article 64: Qazi

KABUL - Independent Commission for Oversight of the Implementation of the Constitution (ICOIC) has issued a legal consultation for a resolution of tensions on disputed parliamentary elections.
The ICOCI warned that any inconsideration by politicians and justice institutions to solve the points of difference would have bad consequences.
The ICOCI called on President Hamid Karzai and other relevant institutions to support the legal consultations.

The legal consultation suggested by ICOCI includes three articles and the first two articles explain legal responsibilities and jobs of Attorney General's Office and Supreme Court in light of Afghan laws.
ICOCI sees the legal consultation as the only resolution that could bring and end to tensions over the parliamentary elections.
Chief of ICOCI Gul Rahman Qazi said: "The president should play his role based on article 64, part one. The article focuses on support of laws and could resolve the problem."
The oversight commission warned of foreign mediation if the issue is left unaddressed.

Meanwhile, political coalition for support of laws has given President Hamid Karzai a couple of days to invalidate the investigations of elections special tribunal.
Calling the investigation of special tribunal into parliamentary election "unconstitutional", leader of the coalition warned if the president refuses to respond to our demands within the targeted days, the coalition will use legal approaches against him. (Tolo News)
