Security Tightened in Kabul Ahead of Eid

KABUL - Kabul police said on Saturday tight security measures had been put in place in the capital to enable residents to celebrate the Eid festival in a secure environment. Police chief Maj. Gen Zahir told a news conference that 15,000 police personnel had been deployed to ensure security during Eid days.

In addition to setting up posts at several points, a number of police patrols would be also active during Eid days, he said.

“Police, in coordination with other security organs, will actively work for the protection of Kabul citizens in Eid days,” Gen. Zahir promised.

He called upon citizens to inform police or call toll-free emergency number 119 if they saw suspected individuals or things.

He also asked parents not to let their children use explosives and firecrackers, because they cause security problems.

The 15th police district commander, 2nd Lt. Allah Noor, said that they had been working for the last 10 days to ensure better security for residents during Eid.

“Security forces are making efforts day and night for the protection of the people. Residents can safely enjoy the Eid festival,” he said, while searching cars

Residents said they supported Afghan forces in ensuring security. “We want our security forces to preempt sabotage attempts during Eid days,” Farooq Sahibzada said. (Pajhwok)
