ECC Completes Investigation of Complaints from Central Zone

KABUL - Officials of the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) completed an inspection of 944 electoral complaints registered from provinces in the central zone with the majority of the complaints registered from Kabul, during a meeting in Kabul on Monday.

The inspected complaints were from central Afghanistan, which include the provinces of Kabul, Logar, Wardak, Bamyan, Ghazni, Panjsher, Parwan, Kapisa and Daikundi.

"Documents and evidences that are provided to us by any team or people will be decided on after being thoroughly assessed afterwards we will give our final judgments on the complaints," Deputy Head of the ECC, Rida Azimi, said.

The complaints were categorized on the basis of the nature of the complaints, of which 606 complaints were not grouped from all nine provinces. Thirty complaints were registered in reference to votes being recounted, eight on cash fines, six for the dismissal of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) staff, three on invalidation of votes, one complaint against forceful action and 830 others that were not delivered during Monday's announcement.

"We will certify or amend the decisions of the provincial headquarters or completely reject it," the ECC Chairman Abdul Satar Saadat said.

The ECC emphasized that all complaints would be investigated publicly stating that anyone who opposes the decisions of the commissions may file an appeal.

The second day of the investigation began without the members of presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah's team, who have severed all relations with the election commissions.

On Sunday, the ECC emphasized that if Abdullah does not start direct talks and exercise his right to appeal to the decisions of the commission, they will assume he consents.

According to the officials, not cooperating with the electoral commissions will affect the validity of the commissions.

The meeting comes as the Independent Election Commission will announce the preliminary results on Monday. (Tolonews)
