Abdullah's Team Optimistic About Negotiations with IEC

KABUL - Presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah's campaign team reported on Wednesday that negotiations with the Independent Election Commission (IEC) have not yielded positive outcomes, but are optimistic that they will address their concerns.

"So far negotiations haven't reached an outcome," Syed Fazel Aqa Sancharaki, a member of Dr. Abdullah's team, said on Wednesday. "We hope that the negotiations are continued and that the IEC honor our demands."

IEC Spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor said the electoral commission is willing and ready to answer the concerns of Dr. Abdullah as he should be dedicated to the election process.

"We are prepared to respond to Dr. Abdullah's concerns, but the honorable candidates must be committed to the promises they made," IEC Spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor said.

The Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) says in order to get out of this election deadlock Dr. Abdullah's team needs to be engaged in the election process to move forward in harmony.

"The reform and solidarity team must restart its activities [with the IEC]," ECC Spokesman Nadir Mohseni said. "This way the work will move forward in a trustful and harmonious environment."

The solution many have iterated to break this election deadlock is to build consensus and trust between the IEC and Dr. Abdullah. (Tolonews)
