No New Date Yet for Partial Results: Noor

KABUL - The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has not yet firmed up a new date for the announcement of partial results, an official said on Sunday.

Noor Mohammad Noor, the IEC spokesman, told reporters about 85 percent of results from 19,768 polling sites had been fed into the database in the presence of observers.

He said different options were under consideration with regard to the announcement of the partial results, which could be unveiled together with the preliminary outcome.

Ballot boxes have reached the IEC offices in 33 provinces except southeastern Paktika. He hoped the process of ballot boxes’ shifting would be completed by the evening.

In addition, the IEC spokesman said, tallying of results was underway in the presence of observers of national and international institutions. The commission is striving to facilitate UN monitoring of the process.

Noor confirmed the UN was cooperating with the commissions, especially in the technical area, as an observer.

He added votes from the polling sites that failed to observe the rules of the commission would be either recounted or investigated. (Pajhwok)
