KABUL - The Central Statistics Organisation (CSO) on Monday put Afghanistan’s population at 28.1 million, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 6.4 percent and inflation rate at 5.6 percent in year 2013.

CSO Director Eng. Sher Mohammad Jami said a comprehensive annual report about the growth of the economy, agriculture, education, health, industries and mining sector would be released soon.

He said the report included detailed information about the use of foreign assistance and the struggling energy sector. The population census has not taken place since 1979, but the figures are based on reliable sources.

The director expressed satisfaction over the economic growth of the country, saying the GDP increased to $21.2 billion last year, while the Gross National Products (GNP) stood $772.

The official said economic statistics showed that inflation rate would jump from last year’s 5.6 percent to 6.4 in 2014. Jami said the CSO report included statistics about the rise and fall in each sector. (Pajhwok)
