Wolesi Jirga OK Anti-Money Laundering Law

KABUL - The Wolesi Jirga, or lower house of parliament, on Monday approved by a majority vote a draft law against money laundering law. The measure will replace a presidential decree.

The Ministry of Justice had earlier drafted the anti-money laundering law. Lawmakers approved the measures with 139-1 votes. As many as 140 parliamentarians attended the session.

The anti-money laundering draft, containing 10 chapters and 70 articles, has been under debate in the Wolesi Jirga for three days.

Under the constitution, the Wolesi Jirga has to endorse or reject a draft law within a month. Once ratified by the parliament, the draft becomes a law after being signed by the president.  (Pajhwok)
