Karzai Sets Committee  for Baghlan Floods’ Victims

KABUL - President Hamid Karzai in a decree on Sunday assigned a committee to seriously investigate into the recently heavy floods, affected thousands of people, with over 150 dead in Guzargah-e-Noor district of northern province of Baghlan.

The committee was led by minister of rural rehabilitation and development, Wais Barmak, deputy public works minister, deputy public health minister, deputy national authority for natural disaster admin and Baghlan governor, the presidential press office said in the statement.

The committee was tasked to precisely investigate into the incident and supply aids including food items, urgent materials including clothing and medications to the victims.

According to the statement the committee should provide the relevant report to the presidential office once the probe team concluded the incident.

Over 150 people including women and children were killed during a flash floods swept through several villages in Guzargah-e-Noor district of the province with more than 800 households being destroyed and thousands of people displaced.  (WNA)
