KABUL - Following the receipt of a detailed report on electoral complaints, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Wednesday said the final result of the April 5 presidential vote would be unveiled on Thursday.

IEC Secretary Ziaul Haq Amarkhel confirmed to Pajhwok News Agency receiving the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) report. Based on the findings, filing of the results has begun.

With the process continuing apace, the outcome would be made public at 11am on Thursday, he said, adding a runoff date would also be announced simultaneously if none of the runners could reach the 51+1 magic figure.

Earlier in the day, the commission’s spokesman, Noor Mohammad Noor, said the electoral watchdog had failed to share its final decision with IEC until 10pm. The watchdog linked the delay to efforts at ensuring transparency. (Pajhwok)
