Karzai Visits Badakhshan Victims

KABUL - On Wednesday morning, President Hamid Karzai visited the victims of the landslide in Abi Barik village of Argo district and expressed his condolences and sympathy with the affected, according to the Presidential palace statement.

Further in the statement, president Karzai visited the affected residents in their tents, listening to their concerns and problems.

President Karzai assured them that local and foreign aids and assistance have been collected and will be distributed among them.

The president noted that new houses will be built for those who have lost their homes in this natural disaster.

During the trip, the president personally assured the affected families that he will closely follow the aid process, assuring they receive it in an orderly manner.

According to the Governor of Badakhshan, more than 2,500 people have been killed and more than 300 homes are buried under rocks and mud due to a landslide in northern Badakhshan province on Friday afternoon.

An instructor of the Argo police headquarter, Qari Sayfuddin, added that more than 1,500 livestock were also killed in the incident.

Officials say dozens of families have been displaced due to the incident. (Tolonews)
