Syrian Refugees Total  over 902,000 in Lebanon

BEIRUT - The United Nations Higher Council for Refugees said Sunday that it has registered more than 50,000 Syrian refugees to Lebanon during the month of January, bringing the number of refugees accounted by the agency to over 902,000.The UN agency pointed in its monthly report that more than 854, 000 of refugees have been registered, while 47,000 others are waiting for their registration.

It said that north Lebanon is hosting 249,493 refugees, while there are 288,956 in the eastern Bekaa and 206,393 in Mount Lebanon and Beirut, and 109,510 are being registered in south Lebanon.It pointed out that “the agency provided the medical care and psychological support to more than 200 survivors of the recent rounds of violence in January, while more than 45,000 refugees received the primary medical care including vaccination and post- delivery care.”It added that “more than 58,000 refugees benefited from services like shelters and cash support to cover rental fees and support the hosting families, and rehabilitation for some community shelters.”Lebanon has called on the various donor countries to fulfill their commitments in helping the refugees who have created a burden the government cannot afford on its own anymore.
