Iran to Equip Submarines with Missiles: Commander
TEHRAN - Deputy Commander of Iran's naval forces Admiral Farhad Amiri said Sunday Iran's navy submarines will be outfitted with missiles in the near future, the English language satellite Press TV reported.
"Using torpedoes has its own associated limitations ...We are moving toward equipping our submarines with missile launching systems," Amiri was quoted as saying.
Drawing on the country's naval achievements in non-conventional warfare, the commander said some of Iran's speedboats are able to locate targets and fire missiles moving at the speeds as high as 50 to 60 knots (100 km per hour), said the report.
Iranian officials have said the country's advancements in military areas are aimed at deterrent purposes. (Xinhua)
