Closer Ties with Russia to Help Regional Stability

TEHRAN - Iranian lawmaker Mehdi Sanaei said that closer cooperation between Tehran and Moscow will help improve peace and stability of the region, the local Tehran Times daily reported on Wednesday. Sanaei, head of the Iran-Russia parliamentary friendship group, made the remarks during a meeting with his visiting Russian counterpart Hafiz Salehov here on Tuesday.

For his part, Salehov highlighted the role of parliamentary friendship groups in paving the way for the expansion of relations between the countries.

Russia has been critical of sanctions imposed by the West on the Islamic republic over its controversial nuclear program. Last week, Russia's Foreign Ministry denounced the tightening of U.S. unilateral sanctions against Iran as "unacceptable and contradictory to international law." (Xinhua)
