Indian Foreign Minister Expresses Grief Over 18 Citizens’ Death in Factory Blast in Sudan

NEW DELHI - India's External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday expressed grief over the death of as many as 18 Indians in a factory blast in Sudan.
The blast took place in a ceramic factory Saloomi in the Bahri area of the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Tuesday. Around 50 Indian workers were inside the factory at the time of the mishap. Many were injured.
On Tuesday, the Indian embassy to Sudan issued an advisory saying, "There has been a blast in a ceramic factory where over 50 Indian workers are reportedly working. So far reports suggest that there are several casualties and injuries, including Indian workers."
The Indian embassy tweeted On Wednesday, "As per latest reports, but so far not confirmed officially, 18 are dead."
Also on Wednesday, Jaishankar tweeted, "Have just received the tragic news of a major blast in a ceramic factory Saloomi in the Bahri area of the capital Khartoum in Sudan. Deeply grieved to learn that some Indian workers have lost their lives while some others have been seriously injured."
The Indian embassy also released a list of the Indians who died in the factory blast. (Xinhua)
