DUBAI - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called Monday on political leaders to meet people's demands in order to overcome crises like those in some parts of the Middle East.

Ban made the appeal while speaking at the third annual United Arab Emirates (UAE) government summit, which started here Monday.

Political leaders should address the problem of marginalizing some classes to put an end to the state of instability like that in Yemen, Libya, Iraq and Syria, Ban said.

He stressed that people need not only prosperity but also transparency and the enforcement of law.

Improving governance should not only address the efficiency of public services but also the stability and justice and this can serve regional and global peace, he said.

The three-day event is attended by over 3,800 officials, speakers, delegates and media professionals. (Xinhua)
