Except for the issues that affect the country and society as a whole, there are a number of issues which affect the common person and especially those who are not having enough approach and influence. One of the problems that are affecting a lot the common public is system of electric junctions working in different corners of the city. When we say ‘electric junction’ we mean a small room established in a neighborhood of three to four streets where one or more electric technicians of the electric supplying corporation are found.
This arrangement was meant to provide services to the customers with their electricity problems. But, due to corruption and other illegal practices, it has become a source of continuous headache for the citizens of Kabul.
These electricians are the employees of the company responsible for supply of electricity and thus they are supposed to provide free of cost services to the customers but unfortunately, there has developed trend in which these workers never do anything without any payment and in case of any problem, when they fix the electricity problem, they demand a good amount of money for their services. People can also not take the services of any expert from a shop because they take it as something challenging their authority and thus they create a lot many problems to the person who ignored them and availed the services of a person from any external source.
They show eagerness to serve the rich and affluent people who pay them handsome amount for their services while they hardly come and do anything for a person who pays less or refuses to pay anything to them.
It has also been complained that they deliberately create problems in the electric lines or meters of people so that they should call him to fix the problem. Unlike any other country in the world, the electric meters are in a box which is locked and its keys are with the person working in the junction. This is a good idea but our malpractices have turned it problematic to us. The person in the junction can do anything with the meters and create any kind of problem to any specific customer.
Very recently, there have been continuous complaints of fluctuations in the voltage resulting in the burning of electric devices and loss of hundreds of Afghanis. Similarly, less voltage doesn’t let the proper functioning of ACs and other electrical appliances.
The company charges good amount to supply electricity and provide services in this regard. It is hoped that concerned authorities will take a look at the system of these electric technicians working in different electric junctions. Similarly, the voltage fluctuations should also be resolved to save the precious appliances of the citizens of Kabul.
