One of the important events of this week was the selection of John Kerry as the Secretary of State of United States. US Secretary of State is considered one of the most influential and important politicians of the world who looks after the external issues of the American government.

Senator Kerry is one of the most experienced political figures of American politics. He was serving as a senator of Massachusetts for the last 28 years and at present serving as the Chairman of powerful Foreign Relations Committee of the upper house of American parliament. He replaced the charismatic Hillary Clinton who bade farewell to her office on Friday.

Senator Kerry’s selection for the post of US Secretary of State brought into light a number of important factors of American democratic system of government. First of all, he is one of the American politicians who have spent their whole lifetime in the field and thus they are very well aware of the tricks of the game. Their thinking approaches, their ability to respond to different situations, and their ability to tackle with crisis are all at the best. They have not only read about all the different political events and situations but many of them author internationally acclaimed books on politics. No doubt, American nation and government will benefit a lot from him and will be remembered as one of the most effective and influential State Secretaries of the State.

Hillary Clinton was a candidate for Presidency in the elections of 2008 but after she lost the race in the party elections, she became the supporter of Obama and after Obama became the first black president of United States, she was selected as the Secretary of State by President Obama and for the next four years, she was one of the strong and influential members of American government. Senator John Kerry had also lost the presidential contest in past but his experience made him to be a perfect choice for this post.

Anyhow, it must be understood that there will not be much change for the Afghan government because whoever comes, the policy and strategy of the government will be preferred.

But we can also think of selecting those on the critical posts of government who should be experienced and should have good knowledge of the field. In this regard, the policy of government to bring up the educated and acknowledged politicians can change the fate of nation.

We can also benefit from the practices of American government where personal or political differences are left aside when the national issues are considered and only merit becomes the criteria for selection for high government posts.
