Need of control on weapons in Afghanistan

After the repeated tragic events of firing in America, US government started thinking seriously about the implementation of strict rules to control weapons. The rampant and uncontrollable spread of weapons in the society had made the whole of the society very much vulnerable for such tragic events and thus there was need of serious actions against the private weapons.

Anyhow, case in Afghanistan is much different than that of the America but the fears and dangers are even more serious in Afghanistan. Three decades of civil war had made the people very much accustomed with the firing and usage of weapons. The country was divided into different warring factions and thus keeping arms and weapons was very necessary for the protection of one’s life. After the democratic government was established and general peace was restored, it was not possible for the common public to make open display of their weapons but anyhow, people did not destroy their weapons. According to unofficial statistics, Afghan citizens have large number of weapons and ammunition kept hidden in their houses or offices and people are also very much at home to use them whenever needed. Such ability is displayed when the city is terrorized by the attack of terrorists and thus we see a large number of civilians with guns in their hands, standing outside their homes and offices in order to safeguard their families and houses.

Anyhow, with the exception of a few rural areas where there is unrest, there remains no more logical need to let the people keep weapons. Presence of weapons makes the people more adroit and thus chances of violation of state laws increase. Except these, weapons give birth to many serious threats to the peace, stability and solidarity of the society.

It is thus needed that proper legislation should be made by the representatives of people sitting in the parliament to safeguard the lives of people. In this regard, our parliament members, politicians and other influential members of our society can emerge as an example by submitting their extra weapons to the government. Then, a proper drive should be started in every corner of the country in which private weapons should be confiscated. There are many examples of such drives in different countries of the world and their strategies and policies can be implemented in our country as well. This serious problem should better be solved now before we get a shock in form of any tragic event.
