Insensitivity against Suicidal Attacks

On Sunday, January 27, a roadside bomb ripped off in Kandahar city when cops were on the mission to neutralize a previously detected explosive device in the area which killed 10 people, including 8 policemen according to city’s police statements. Two other persons who were killed along with policemen were also suspected individuals.

They arrested three suspected individuals and were on the way back to police headquarter when bomb went off. A day before Kandahar’s deadly incident on Afghan National Police, a suicide bomber killed 10 police officers in Konduz province and on the same day, another suicide bomber riding on motorcycle killed two people, including a policeman.

Considering this high number of attacks, the security environment is getting terribly bleak. Indeed, due to cold weather, the winters have been comparative peaceful. Armed oppositions have always threatened to bolster their attacks on Afghan and foreign security forces on spring.

The insurgent activities to a great extent followed the ups and downs of temperature. When the weather got cold, the militants also decreased to some extent, and when the temperature rose, they also increased their activities. Seemingly, the temperature has not much affected militants’ activities this winter.

They have carried several high profile attacks this winter even in the most barricaded areas. As usual, the alarm is ringing high when the snow melts down and it becomes much easier for militants to move from one area to another.

During winter, they can only pass through highways where it is highly difficult and dangerous to carry weapons and explosive materials, while they do not have such problem during the rest of seasons when the weather is warm. So, the possibility of increasing attacks during spring remains too high. So, on the basis of this calculation, we will have much violent, insecure and uncertain season awaiting us which would likely record the highest number of attacks in comparison to previous years.

Moreover, we are witnessing a slow familiarity of the society with the phenomenon of suicide bombings. Earlier, people harshly reacted to such incidents, calling them barbaric and inhuman. Presently, it has become so normal. People only react to suicide bombing-related reports indifferently. It is also much annoying. So, by each passing day, it increasingly turns to become an accepted tactic for war. When people become so familiar, there would not be any nation-wide opposition to stand against such an inhuman action.
