Tensions Grow Larger as We Get Closer to 2014

The year 2014 has not begun yet, but fear of conflict and insecurity among the citizens get greater as each day we get closer to the year. But people show a green light as per President Karzai's strong confidence that the situation would be completely normal and under control after the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country.

Having said so, the United States Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in his trip to Australia said that the Washington is to decide about the fate of U.S. troops in the next coming weeks in Afghanistan after 2014 by observing the future demands and challenges, when the NATO troops completely withdraw from Afghanistan.

Observing the current security concerns and the challenges ahead, there is still a high need of tie cooperation by U.S. and international community with the government of Afghanistan by conducting professional training course of capacity building for the Afghan forces so that they are able to overcome the future challenges beyond 2014 themselves.

Thus, there is still doubt about the capability of Afghan forces to be able to conduct counterterrorism mission against Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups after the withdrawal of NATO forces from the country. In order to enable the Afghan forces to implement a good security arrangement after 2014 with the support of the remaining U.S. forces in the country, the U.S. top commander in Afghanistan, John Allen had been working closely with the Afghan officials to reach to a wise conclusion with best alternatives.

In response to the preferred alternatives, being proposed by U.S. government for the post-2014 in this period, Zaher Azimi, the defense ministry of Afghanistan on Tuesday told the TOLO news that there is still a need for the proposed alternatives of the U.S. government for the government of Afghanistan, which are still on pending for the endorsement.

The agreement of alternatives for the post-2014 will be in the interest of both countries.
Above all, based on the ground realities, the contribution of international community for the best defensive growth of Afghan forces will be the fundamental demand to the future challenges that the Afghan government is going to face after 2014 as the Taliban's tactical attacks grow more serious.
