Syrian Oppositions are Losing Public Support

Recently, the New York Times released a lengthy report about the dampening support of Syrian public for rebels. The main reason behind is the cruelty and irresponsible moves of free fighters who act now more like gangs. The report quoted several civilians who expressed their revulsion of activities which have already cost the country too much.

Videos constantly posted on websites show misbehavior with cacophony of insults and finally terrifying shootings of arrested security forces or pro-government militia. There are also reports about cases of lootings of civilians' shops and malls by armed groups. They are also fighting security forces in areas where people are not contended because they will suffer as government's airstrikes cause huge destructions.

The civil uprising passes its twentieth month and yet the prospective of ultimate winner looks pitch-dark. The violence has left more than 40 thousand dead, tens of thousands others injured and around millions displaced.  Perhaps, it is too much to pay for replacing a regime with possible unobvious alternative.

The civil uprising which spurred by successful civil demonstrations in Egypt and Tunisia has undergone a complete identical metamorphose. Presently the very supporters of oppositions to regime confess the uprising is perverted and moves on a different path.

Initially, it was derailed with defected security forces and core oppositions held arms to force President Assad to step down. They found global diplomatic supporters and many regional countries also secretly took the responsibility of financing as well as arming larger groups. It was the second phase.

Currently, the war has reached to the apex of its third phase. The role of free fighters has terribly diminished.  Jihadi fighters have come ahead, who are fighting by the name of Allah Almighty. They are fighting to kill and to be martyred in the way of Allah Almighty. For them it is not important whether you have taken arms or killed anti-government individuals. Instead, for them, you are sinful if you bear the hallmark of, for instance, Allawiate; for them you are sinful if you avoid cooperating with them in hunting and executing government supporters.

Therefore, they have lost their foreign supporters, particularly Western countries who have just stepped back to reassess the ground situation. Criticisms are turned towards both regime and oppositions alike. Both sides are blamed for violence and bloodsheds unlike earlier time. Currently there are reports like that of New York Times noticed above that people are also pulling back and it would be a major blow to rebels.
