Poetry in Uruzgan!

Monday witnessed one of the pleasing elements that are direly needed to the people of our country. A number of poets and writers from Uruzgan, Helmand, Kandahar and Kabul gathered in Uruzgan to present their poetry and relieve the people of the tension of war and unrest. Governor of province, Amir Muhammad Akhunzada took the lead in this good work by arranging this poetry session in Governor's house, in Trinkot, the centre of the province.

The session was very much enjoyed by the people and they welcomed it warmly with a hope that more and more such activities should be held so that they should not only see their language and literature flourishing but should also take part in activities which are very necessary to keep the spirits of people high in a civilized society.

War is an evil that leaves behind its deadly marks even after it is over and peace is restored. With the losses of lives, property and general order, it also snatches many valuable assets of a nation that provide positive entertainment and assist them in seasoning and maturing their personalities.

Poetry, books and libraries, positive entertainment, parks and other points of recreation are all lost and people are left with very limited means of entertainment and recreation. Absence of these have left our people with two means of recreation which are going out for hoteling or doing gatherings at home.

The means of recreation that not only season the emotions and sentiments of people and turn them positive are almost absolutely absent and as a result we see a surge in violence and lack of tolerance. Moreover, they have given way to negative means of recreation like drinking, gambling and vulgar music parties which are not permitted according to our religious and cultural standards.

Such activities also provide a chance to people to choose and excel in a career that they like according to their natural aptitude and gifted abilities and thus we would be able to have people who can be proficient in literature and other fields as well except for being businessmen or work-place managers.

There are rich and affluent people who can contribute in the promotion of such healthy activities as they in return can bring more harmony and peace in the society. It is also needed that government and its high-ups should do their best within their available resources. Let's hope that this worth-praising would be followed by others as well.
