Even in Ramadan No Help for Poor People

The Muslims around the world have completed more than half a month in fast. It is the month of Ramadan. During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. As a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice, Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking.

Holy Quran, the most sacred book of Muslims got completed in Ramadan which makes the month especially distinct for the Muslim world. One of the main objectives of remaining hungry and thirsty in the month of Ramadan is to feel the hunger and thirst of those who live in grave poverty and are deprived of enough foods.

The message of Ramadan to wealthy people of a society and government is to help the poor masses. Nonetheless, it seems like we are taking distance from what we are required to do in Ramadan according to Islamic teachings. The poor suffer more in Ramadan than any other month as prices go extra-ordinarily high.

The purpose of Ramadan is unfortunately being confined to not eating and not drinking and the government or any other organization have taken no measure to provide incentives to the poor people who make around 60 percent of population in Afghanistan. As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the prices of basic necessities reach new highs doubling the suffering of the people of Afghanistan.

This year, there has been increment up to 50 percent in the prices of food items and other necessities, although from Islamic point of view prices must go down in the month of Ramadan. As Eid ul Fitar is nearing, the prices are expected to rise further which will be another trouble for the poor and low income families.

Already ruined and in grief due to the three decades of war, rising prices will add to the suffering of the Afghan people. Every year the same thing repeats itself and that is quite misfortunate for the poor people of a country like Afghanistan.

The purpose of Ramadan is reminding the people of their roles and responsibilities towards the society they live in. It is a reminder to the government too to see what it has done for bringing the people of out of the worst condition of living.
