On President Karzai’s Criticism of the West

President Hamid Karzai has accused international community of psychological warfare against his country. He has said that the West's analyses and reports on the deterioration of situation of Afghanistan after 2014 are based on the fact that they do not want us to tell them to leave our country. The President was talking to a gathering called "National Peace Jirga of Youths.

" There are a couple of points to be mentioned. The Jirga was held for three days but it was divided and some of the participants walked out in protest against the manipulations from circles in the presidential palace. The protesting participants were saying that there are some circles in the presidential palace that want to dictate the resolution.

They said that they were blocked to go to the presidential palace for the meeting with President Karzai and instead brought some other youths from different Kabul schools and institutions to meet the President.

On President Karzai's critical remarks about analyses and reports in Western media on post-2014 situation, it must be mentioned that the President unfortunately does not have the moral sense of admitting the ills facing the country. The fact is that President Karzai wishes to tighten his grip of power and economic resources by trying to defame all other national and international actors.

He accused some political parties and the Taliban of destroying the country and paving the way for foreigners to come into Afghanistan.

Unfortunately, he has forgotten that when he was asked about the decentralization of power, which is a logical demand made by a large portion of Afghan population, he said that the US has committed to defend the current unitary political system, which is the most centralized political system in the world. Attempts for concentration and monopolization of power and national wealth and exclusion of other identity groups have been the main cause of conflicts in Afghanistan.

On the post-2014 situation, it must be stated that if corruption continues to run rampant, and if the President continues to provide a pretext for the Taliban by calling them as his brothers while they continue to brutally kill innocent Afghans, there is no doubt that the country will be plunged into another round of chaos.
