Alienation of Jihadi Leaders not in the Interest of the Nation

Marshal Mohammad QasimFahim, the first Vice-President has said that the disaffection of Jihadi commanders is the cause of fifty percent of insecurity in Afghanistan. The Vice-President has stated that these Jihadi leaders and commanders have influence and role among their people and can muster the public support for the government. But it should be said that it is President Hamid Karzai who has alienated almost all of Jihadi leaders and commanders in order to appease the Taliban and other insurgent groups.

This is because these Jihadi leaders fought the Taliban that were massacring Afghan people, denying women the right to education and confining them to homes. So since President Karzai wants to bring the militants to the fold and even to power, he has taken even hostile approach towards the Jihadi leaders.

He has taken an extremely conciliatory approach towards the Taliban, which goes against the grain of Afghan people. Afghan people continue to suffer in the brutal hands of the Taliban. They have their roads, schools and bridges destroyed by the Taliban almost on a daily basis.

Their lives are disrupted every day. They want the government to take a strict approach towards the insurgents. These leaders want to stand on the side of the their people not the government, which is corrupt and wants to arrange a political marriage with the Taliban that continue to kill human beings because of their way of thinking and way of life.

Afghan people are of the view that the Taliban are the most destructive force and must be defeated militarily. This is because the Taliban are the most stubborn force as well. It is almost impossible to change their minds and persuade them to put human lives ahead of their hardline ideology.

Unfortunately, it is President Karzai that fails to understand this. Instead of focusing on tackling this evil force, President Karzai does his best to tackle the voices that are raised in favor of fundamental reforms. It seems that Mr. President views the reformists more dangerous than the Taliban.
