President Karzai Needs to Understand Sorrows from Kandahar Attacks

Around twenty two people got killed in two consecutive suicide attacks in Kandahar. And fifty more are reported to have been wounded in these attacks. The victims are all civilians. The Taliban have claimed the responsibility for them. According to the provincial spokesman Jawid Faisal, the attack happened around 11:15am near Kandahar Air Field - a NATO-run military base - when a suicide bomber on a motorbike detonated his explosives while Afghan civilians were gathered in a transport area near the base.

Then a second suicide bomber in a car blew himself up.The United States embassy in Kabul, while strongly condemning the suicide bombing that occurred on Wednesday in Kandahar, has said in a statement, "By targeting a busy civilian area, the terrorists have once again demonstrated their utter disregard for the safety and security of the Afghan people." As usual, President Hamid Karzai, condemning the attacks, has said that the suicide bombings are against Islamic and human principles and called those responsible the enemies of Afghanistan.

President Karzai will fail to understand the sorrows and grieves that his "unhappy brothers" have caused to those affected and their families. In the meanwhile, the spokesman for National Directorate of Security (NDS) has said that the Taliban are responsible for poisoning schoolchildren.

The students of seven schools have been poisoned in the last one month in Takhar province. The Taliban have been carrying suicide attacks as part of their spring offensive, called Al-Farooq. According to Lotfullah Mashal, the NDS spokesman, attacks on schools are part of the Al-Farooq spring offensive, about which they the militants had said, "It must be stated that the primary target of Al-Farooq operation will be the foreign invaders, their advisors, their contractors and members of all associated military, intelligence and auxiliary departments.

And similarly, the high ranking officials of the stooge Kabul regime; members of Parliament; those associated with Ministries of Defense, Intelligence and Interior; members of the so called High Peace Council; Militia under the name of 'Arbaki' and all those people who work against the Mujahideen, toil to pave ground for the occupation of Afghanistan and become the cause for the strength of the invaders will also be targeted in Al-Farooq operation." There is a growing perception among Afghan people as well as foreign observers that it is possible to defeat the Taliban militarily.

In order to do that, president Karzai should stop calling them as his brothers and Afghan and international forces increase pressure on them. But for the president Karzai to be convinced that the militants are not the brothers, he needs to understand the sorrows of Kandaharis that suffered in these bombings.
