No Room for Full or Partial Power to Taliban without Election

There appears to be a growing consensus that the Taliban cannot fully take over power either by force or by any other means. The Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1994 to 2001. It was the darkest period in the chequered history of Afghanistan. The Taliban's regional sponsors and supporters have been attempting over the last ten years to pave the way for or facilitate the return of the Taliban militants but Afghan people abhor the atrocity committed by the Taliban too much to allow such a development to happen.

Now they seem to be backing down and try to build a share for the Taliban within the government and power structures. The Taliban continue to kill people, and refuse to join the fold to live in an open society where there is a free discussion of ideas. In fact, over the last ten years, Afghan government and international community have been giving too much to Taliban by keeping the door of peace open and by trying to persuade them to renounce violence.

This has been even at the expense of the life of many prominent and benevolent figures of the country- that is to say- as a result of this reconciliatory and lax approach towards a brutal insurgency, the Taliban militants were able to orchestrate and carry out suicide and terrorist attacks freely to kill national personalities, innocent people and national security personnel.

Omar Daudzai has said that there is a shift in the policy of Pakistan towards Afghanistan. He stated, "Although circles in Pakistani government continue to view the Taliban as strategic asset for themselves, they also do not seek to fully take power from distance in the hand of the Taliban."

It must be mentioned that the Taliban first have to join the peace process and accept the constitution. Afghan people will resist if they are offered to share power because the people can show the only mercy to accept the Taliban in joining the fold peacefully. They cannot tolerate the militants that have perpetrated the most atrocious acts to come to hold offices without any election mechanisms or so.

In fact, Taliban must be punished for the damages and killings they have done in the country. So there should not be a new scenario created to give the Taliban even partial power without any election.
