Need to Use Strategic Agreements Properly

Afghanistan is now a country with strategic partnership agreements with several strong and powerful countries of the world. Afghanistan is an extremely poor country torn by years of war and conflict. It is a country that is suffering from interferences by the neighboring countries. Its neighbors continue to maintain a hostile approach towards it.

Afghanistan is also troubled by a ruthless insurgency based on an evil and destructive ideology; this ideology runs counter to education, progress and modernity. It has root in the region and beyond but has local recruits from within Afghan society- that is to say- there are some Afghans who are hoodwinked and instructed to explode themselves and kill people.

So this is the internal threat that needs to be tackled. The philosophy behind signing strategic agreements with the United States of America and some other countries in Europe as well as India is to help Afghanistan become a strong state, capable of defending itself against both internal and external threats.

President Hamid Karzai has left the country for Germany to sign a strategic partnership agreement with this country. Afghanistan has already signed strategic agreements with India, US, Italy, Britain and France. These are all the good signs for future course of peace and economic growth in the country.

But they will still depend on the fact that to what extent Afghanistan and other parties fulfill their commitments and pledges they make in the agreements. Afghan government is supposed to clean itself to be able to continue to receive international aid within the framework of these agreements but unfortunately there has not been any strong will on the part of the government to stamp out corruption.

As a result, Afghan people in the provinces seem to have become tired of corruption and inefficiency in the government. They are also tired of the government's failure to provide security for the people. It is Afghanistan that needs these agreements most. If the government fails to fulfill its responsibilities under these agreements and persuade the partner countries to deliver on their commitments, these agreements will be useless. They should be used effectively to stabilize and develop Afghanistan politically and economically.
