When the Taliban emerged as a movement in the political stage of Afghanistan, they had Holy Quran in their hands to show to the people that their words and acts would be guided by the Holy Quran. They did attract people at the beginning to some extent. But soon they not only did not stick to the message and content of holy Quran but also perpetrated the most atrocious crimes as they massacred people in different parts of the country.
The holy Quran not only was not followed as an ultimate guidance but also was interpreted by them in the harshest and most extremist line. In fact, they distorted the image of Islam and the spirit of Holy Quran, which is an eternal book to regulate lives and guide Muslims until doomsday.
Recently, Toryalia Wisa, the governor of Kandahar province in a press briefing informed of arresting one Taliban insurgent who attempted to burn Holy Quran and set in fire the graves of Arabs located in a village in Kandahar. According to the governor, the detainee in his primary confession has said that he has links with Shura-e-Quetta- the Taliban leadership.
The burning of copies of Holy Quran at Bagram air base fuelled violent protests across the country. The incident itself was condemnable as there appeared inadequate attention paid to caring the copies of Holy Quran that were collected from the arrested Taliban insurgents and terrorists. But people's sentiments and emotions were easily manipulated by those who do not fathom and follow the true messages of this holy book of eternal guidance.
Afghan people need to understand the fragility of the situation in the country and not allow internal and external elements to perpetuate violence in Afghanistan. It is clear cut that Afghanistan has been made a violent country. Afghan people must display their ability and rationality to resist further manipulation of their beliefs, faiths and patriotism. Foreign elements have always used Afghans' pure feelings towards Islamic teachings.
In the meanwhile, Afghan people have a very high level of patriotism and love for their country. Elements in the neighboring countries have been attempting to use this characteristic of Afghan people against any long-term strategic partnership between Afghanistan and great powers through manipulations.
