Afghanistan Moving towards Destruction at a Very Fast Pace

It seems like Afghanistan's Western backers are eager to get rid of their war in here as soon as they can. France will completely withdraw its forces from Afghanistan by 2013 and the US has said it will end its combat mission in Afghanistan as early as mid 2013. When the US takes such a decision, be sure that all its partners will do the same. But is not leaving Afghanistan more difficult than entering it? No doubt, Afghanistan will, once again, turn into safe havens for terrorists groups such as al Qaida.

Breaking the resistance of enemy is a long-used technique for triumphing in a war. It looks like, economic, public and political pressures have grown high on US and its allies causing them to stop the war and pay attention to address those pressures.

The first decade of US invasion of Afghanistan has completed and the Afghan war has entered its second decade. Yet, it is not clear until when the war will last? Security in this country has deteriorated with each passing year and with all the blood and treasure invested. No one is hopeful. The international community, Afghan government and the people are all looking at the condition in Afghanistan with despair.

If US-led NATO could not defeat the Taliban with all the resources, weapons, equipment and latest technology it has on hand, how come the Afghan national army and police – that have had only ten tiny years to nurture - could stand against them? Further destruction is what Afghanistan is moving towards at a very fast pace. Taliban will return to Afghanistan whether by hook or crook and their return is what Afghans fear. More violence and destruction in their country should not be beyond expectation.

Americans must say, "We have hunted our greatest enemy, Osama Bin Laden, why should we continue to waste our soldiers and money in Afghanistan?"They are right. And Afghanistan is at the verge of being forgotten once again.
