Problems of Teachers

The plight of teachers, the guiders of our society, remains untold in media. In western world, teaching is a very honorable profession and teachers have great social reputation. But it's the opposite in our country. Teachers are paid the least. This is a profession when people are failed everywhere, they join teaching profession. In Afghanistan teachers get the lowest salary in the world.

Teachers are financially never dependent. A teacher's salary in Afghanistan is about 5000 Afghanis (100 USD) per month. He has to pay rent, utility expenses, education expense of children and other family expense. How can one meet the day's end in such skyrocketing price hike? Even for that least amount, teachers have to go a long process. They have to go to national banks for their monthly salary. Many get their salary late, while some are unpaid for months due to financial problems like those living in far flung areas of countryside with no banks nearby.

Our education sector is a disaster. Teachers still apply the century-old teacher-centric teaching methodology that makes the students a trained citizen to say "yes" all the time. They have no creativity at all. Students cram the books, but don't understand it.

They are taught for exams, not understanding or practical life. They have no vision out of their text books. It's all because of the disastrous situation in education sector particularly related to teachers. Most of the teachers are untrained and non-professional.

Most of them have not completed their school graduation. It's all due to lack of professional teachers. The Government pays little attention in this regard. Professional teachers that complete their graduation from Kabul University in Teaching Profession are reluctant to join the unattractive profession in the country, where they are not paid salaries for months.

When facing such huge troubles, financial problems and no respectful profession, teachers too do not teach with an enthusiasm and zeal of a professional teacher. They take it for the sake of job and a financial support, thus the entire system rolls around this disaster-circle. The Government should pay some serious attention to education sector in general and the plight of teachers in particular.
