Taliban are Taliban!

Now, it really seems like efforts are on to give a formal shape to Taliban's movement and present them as good people to the world. Some political circles maintain that the Taliban have undergone a positive change after their government was toppled, back in 2001. They are not the Taliban they used to be during the 90's. They have bent towards modern technologies such as internet and no more focus on superficial issues such length of beard or watching TV.

In an article published on Wall Street Journal's website under the title, "Emboldened Taliban Try to Sell Softer Image," Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban's spokesman has been quoted as saying, "During the past Taliban regime the government would make some hasty decisions, but now we are careful and deliberate."

A key difference would be an effort to include all of Afghanistan's tribes and ethnic communities, he adds. The old Taliban regime was dominated by Pashtun clerics from southern Kandahar province, and discriminated against the Shiite Hazara community and other minorities.

This time around, "every group of the nation will be equally represented and privileged," Mr. Mujahid says. The article also talks about change in the notion of Taliban over school for girls and boys, although it states the UN figures that put the number of attacks and threats against schools to 440 in 2011 against 500 in 2010.

Truly speaking, Taliban are now fiercer as compared to their past. Taliban's suicide bombings, targeted killings, IED attacks and other sorts of insurgency kill more civilians than foreign troops. They massacred thousands of people in central and northern parts of Afghanistan during their government just because of their belief, religion and ethnicity.

If they become able to regain the same of level of power, they will cross their previous records and limits. Taliban believes the minorities are supporting the foreigners. Foreigners would go in 2014 and Taliban would seek for taking revenge from minority groups, undoubtedly.

The Taliban are Taliban. They are six days in sin and the seventh in church. As the US is trying to escape from Afghanistan to end the longest war in its history, it would not be fair to gloss over the horrific face of Taliban who have taken lives of thousands of innocent people and foreign and Afghan soldiers. Calling Taliban as 'friends' or giving them credit of any kind would mean dishonoring the sacrifices so far made in regards of peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and the world.
