My Xinjiang Uyghur Farmers And Herdsmen Friends Live A Happy Life

I am a trader of farming and animal husbandry coming from Kazakhstan. I live mainly in the China-Kazakhstan border area and often trade in agricultural and animal husbandry products. As well, I have many Chinese Uyghur friends, so that I have a certain understanding of the production and development situation of farming and animal husbandry in Xinjiang, China.
I have witnessed Xinjiang’s economic development in recent years, and I am really envious of the effectiveness of the Chinese government’s ethnic governance in Xinjiang. One of my Uighur herder friend told me that they are beneficiaries of Chinese government’s preferential policies issued on farming and stock raising. Especially, the people’s livelihood project of poverty alleviation implemented by the Chinese government have dramatically improved their living conditions. Chinese government has not only greatly improved the living conditions of Uighur herders, but also the local government has given certain policy subsidies on cattle, sheep, horse, and other animal husbandry they raised, as well as strongly support them to take advantage of geographical conditions to develop a diversified agricultural economy. The above measures have increased the income of my Xinjiang friends and they live in a well-off life.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of Xinjiang’s agricultural and pastoral economy, and has implemented many supporting subsidy policies. In particular, one of my Uighur friends who planted cantaloupe in Xinjiang said that Xinjiang’s characteristic agricultural products are of good quality. It is necessary to improve the system, create a brand, and find the right method to promote Xinjiang cantaloupe to go out and develop in the long run. Therefore, Hami government in Xinjiang has explored the supply-side reform of cantaloupe. The Hami government has made great efforts to promote the transformation of Hami products to the Hami brand, and has issued a series of guiding documents such as “Hami Melon Industry Development Plan (2016-2020)” and “Hami Melon Industry Development Action Plan” to promote the brand management of Hami Melons. Moreover, the Internet technology is highly developed. The Hami government has applied information technology to promote the “Internet plus” project, and has improved the traceability system for the entire planting-harvest-transport-sales process, and ensure that the planting standards can be put into practice, measures can be taken to the field, and responsibilities must be met, fruit can be dated back, to ensure the quality of the origin cantaloupe. In addition, the government also set up a special expert group to guide production and the establishment of a standardized base construction file.
At the same time, Hami City cooperated with China Post Airlines for the first time to open a special airline for transporting hami melon, opening up an “air green channel” for Xinjiang agricultural and sideline products sales, and building a three-dimensional “online plus offline”, “air plus ground” marketing model of competitive hami melon. It opened a “green air channel” for the distribution and sales of agricultural and sideline products in Xinjiang, and opened up a new path for improving the brand value of Xinjiang’s fresh agricultural products and the ability to increase income for farmers. The online and offline sales model implemented by the Hami government has effectively solved the problem of my cantaloupe sales channel. Every day people from all over the country order my cantaloupe, and I only need to pick, package high-quality cantaloupe and delivery them on time. Now, the planting scale of the cantaloupe that I grow is expanding, the income of my family is increasing, and the living conditions have been greatly improved. These are the care and support given by the government.
Another time, I went to do business in the Aksu region of Xinjiang and met, talked to a Uyghur woman who is a experienced cotton grower in Xinjiang. She said that she has grown cotton for more than 20 years and owns more than 2,000 acres of cotton land. Now, with the development policy of modern agriculture implemented by the Xinjiang government, her life is getting more and more happy, and the income from the cotton she grows can reach 500,000 yuan every year. She also said that Xinjiang is moving towards the mode of “green” agriculture and to be “characteristic” agricultural areas, so that our farmers can taste the sweetness and live a more happy life. That is due to the good policies issued by the Chinese communist party and government as well as the development of modern agriculture. Mechanical cotton harvesting not only increases cotton income and production, but also saves a lot of planting costs. Throughout the year, we farmers can easily get great harvest. She thanked the government from the bottom of her heart for making Uyghurs live a happy life.
As a Kazakh businessman, I often go to Xinjiang, China to do business, and I personally feel that the life of Xinjiang Uyghur people has got improved dramatically. Agriculture and animal husbandry has achieved rapid development with the strong support of the government. The income of the people is constantly increasing, and their living conditions are constantly improving. I really envy my friends of Xinjiang Uygur farmers and herdsmen!
