Towards ‘A Community with Shared Future’

The image of three-year-old Syrian boy Alan Kurdi, who was drowned in the Mediterranean Sea on 2 September 2015, outraged the public conscience around the globe. This was a heart-wrenching story for all nations and individuals. People aired their hatred of violence and bloodshed and they were filled with an outpouring of grief regardless of Alan’s color or ethnicity, which indicates that we live in “the global village” and one’s pain and sufferings will affect others around the world. All nations have a shared future and need to support the idea of building “a community with shared future for mankind” which was pioneered by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The war and violence have taken colossal toll on men, women and children around the globe and inflicted unbearable sufferings upon them. The flagrant violation of human rights and dignity is widespread. The scourge of war “which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind”, continues unabated.
The militant fighters and terrorist networks spill the blood of people indiscriminately on the grounds of their caste, color, and creed. One’s inherent rights and dignity are trampled upon and freedoms are curtailed in the wake of unmitigated insurgency.
Lack of religious tolerance and spirit of brotherhood on the one hand, and regional rivalries and political dominance on the other hand, left no room for a peaceful coexistence. The “war of all against all” is unlikely to stop as the desire for aggression and death continues.
To alleviate one’s pain and anguish, mitigate violence and carnage and promote the spirit of peaceful coexistence, human societies need to step forward to build a community of shared future, which is championed by Chinese government. Community of shared future means forming a civil and democratic society where all be able to exercise their rights and liberties without barriers. To put it into the words of Chinese President, it is “to build not China’s own backyard garden, but a garden shared by all countries.”
For constructing a violence-free and peaceful community with shared future for mankind, all nations need to seek common ground, urge concerted global efforts to promote the spirit of brotherhood, take new approach to develop state-to-state relation with communication rather than confrontation and settle dispute through dialogue.
It is self-explanatory that peace, development and win-win cooperation have been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of all peoples. That is to say, all members of the human family seek to live a free, peaceful and prosperous life and exercise their inherent rights and liberties without obstacles. This all dream will come true if the world zeroes in on the construction of building a community of shared future.
We are all the residents of the global village and members of the human family and have shared future. Hence, we need to share our weal and woe and advocate the idea of “building a community of shared future for mankind and achieve shared and win-win development” which is China’s proposition.
Chinese officials are in pursuit of a peaceful world and urge all nations to step forward. They believe that regional stability and a sustainable economic growth will benefit all nations, whereas instability and economic crisis will put a negative impact on all.
It is believed that Chinese President Xi Jinping will reiterate regional and global support for a peaceful coexistence and joint economic development, including the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), in BoaoForum for Asia (BFA) which will be held in South China’s island province of Hainan from April 8 to 11. He will further stress the need for regional solidarity and strong global economic tie to contribute to the building of a community with shared future for mankind.
China’s contribution to global peace and world economy indicates her intention of playing a constructive role at national and international level. Admiring the role of China,United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterressaid on Thursday, “We see the role of China not only in the direct contribution of peacekeepers, but also in the contribution to the discussions we will have this year on how to improve peacekeeping.”
China has constantly suggested that amicable dialogue will be the only solution to all challenges, be it in terms of politics or economy, but cold war will fuel the tension among states. To move toward a community with shared future, all countries need to sidestep tension and resolve the challenges through dialogue and diplomatic means.
To sum up, the story of Alan Kurdi continues in the region and thousands of people succumb to death similar toKurdi owing to violence and conflict. People undergo indescribable sufferings in war-torn countries. The geo-political rivalries instigate lose-lose game that takes its toll on all nations. To live a peaceful and prosperous life in this global village, all members of human family will have to move towards a community with shared future and play their role constructively in building such a community the same as China does.
