Both candidates have frustrated people, hence, if they even finally reach to an agreement and form a united government, perhaps it would not be something to celebrate. Despite observing acceleration of the audit, it is not clear how the representatives of both teams are not accepting the result. The main purpose of audit of ballot papers under the very eyes of international community and representatives of both reform and partnership of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Changes and Continuity of Dr. Ashraff Ghani Ahmadzai is to exercise acceptable level of transparency and filter fake votes.
Despite controversies among two teams and several physical fighting as some employees of Election Commissions were also beaten, yet no measures are held to enforce discipline. It was hoped that after the completion of process both candidates give up their initial demands to remain in power instead accept the result, whatever appears.
Presently, it seems that the main of aim of candidates is not separation of authentic votes and fake votes rather it is power even if it becomes possible through warnings, threats or any other illegal means.
Therefore, when the aim is not actually transparency and filtering of fake votes, the situation is fully complicated. In such a condition, forming a national unity is a solution but not without serious challenges. During past few weeks as the deadline for handing over of power from Mr. Karzai is approaching, both candidates have held serious discussion to determine the structure of future government. Certainly, if the agreement was made, the audit process would also have gone smoothly. Because on such a situation, when the election had no winner and loser, respected Dr. Abdullah and Dr. Ashraff Ghani would not have paid much importance about the result appeared after filtering of votes.
The present concept is this that despite allegation of extensive vote rigging by both sides, it is hard that audit could completely change the result announced by Independent Election Commission (IEC) earlier.
Thus, Reform and Partnership team want that the position of chief executive should be symbolic and by the process of time it be ended to premiership with modifications in constitution. Because he previously mentioned that parliamentary system is better for the country in comparison to present presidential one. While the Changes and Continuity team allegedly opposes the concept. It wants the system should remain intact and chief executive should work under the umbrella of Mr. President.
Anyhow, people are disappointed. If any of the teams form the government or both form a united government, it would have acceptable mass support.
