Permanent Solution to Security Problems

In a week, the capital city Kabul was targeted by terrorists for the third time. Tuesday’s attack on Kabul airport was the second such attack very recently, increasing the concerns about the security of the prime city of the country. On the other hand, the reports from other cities and provinces are also disappointing. Kunduz is facing its worst security situation of its history when the city was targeted by terrorist attacks while increased activities of Taliban in the province has increased remarkably in last few months. Similarly, Helmand is still under the attack of Taliban and the military operation of our security forces has not completely finished the threat of Taliban in its different districts. The suicide attack in Paktia is still resounding in the media. All the girls’ schools of the Shindand district in Herat had to be shut down after the threats and increasing attacks of Taliban on these schools.

The reports are also coming from Faryab province about the clashes between local police and Taliban in which dozens have been killed from both the sides. The reports issued on daily basis by the ministry of interior and defense about the operation of security forces tell the success of our forces in which our security forces kill, injure or capture almost hundred militants and terrorists on daily basis but these claims also show the increased activities of Taliban in all the different parts of the country.

It is no doubt that the summer months increase the activities of Taliban and Taliban also increased their activities following the elections in order to deteriorate the security conditions and pave way for their arrival but it is also strange that after all these operations of our security forces in which dozens of terrorists are killed every day, the increasing number of Taliban is a grave matter of concern for all the Afghans.

It shows that large investments are being made in this regard in which large number of people are recruited, they are given regular salaries like that of a regular army, they are equipped with abundant supply of arms and ammunition and are given good training on large scale. It also shows the involvement some strong foreign hands and same has repeatedly been claimed by our security agencies. The operations against militants must be continued but they will not be effective until their sponsors and external links are not caught and dried down.

The Palace, heads of security forces and relevant ministers should have joint meetings in this regard to find out and take necessary actions against the foreign and local sponsors and sympathizers of the militants. Such an action will ensure the permanent solution to this chronic problem.
